Background Challenge Alfacom Solutions was brought in to complete a website building. With a particular concern on the far below expectation of web broadcasting performance, it is critical to optimize the performance of the web infrastructure via various means, including live webcast configuration and program encoding optimization. Alfacom Solutions needed to provide experienced systems administrators to manage and maintain video streaming servers. Solution The database of Dr. Lo's speeches and articles had to be fully searchable by people visiting the site. To make searching as powerful and user-friendly as possible, Alfacom Solutions created an on-line searching system that provides English and Chinese search functionality. In addition, we developed a forum for exchange and discussion on health sector topics through an online bulletin board. All bulletin board messages are archived on the website and each message specifies the sender, date and subject of the message, and content of the message. In Phase Two, our technical staff carried out an on-site surveillance. After the surveillance is completed, we figured out the considerations for connectivity, the location of the camera and the software and hardware requirements for live broadcasting. When all the configuration tasks for production and encoding were completed, our designers started to work on the design of the launch environment. The art direction was of particular importance because it gave a webcast its aesthetic appeal. Therefore we considered the video design must match the website appropriately.
